Jolly
Danuta Paprowicz-Michno also designed the "Jolly" kilim for the Bobowa Cooperative Workshop in the early 1980s, although aesthetically it is the quintessential mid-century modern style. The organic, multicolored forms on the kilim allude to a fascination with microscope images of the late 1950s and early 1960s, while the rhythm of the colorful patches evokes the liveliness of jazz music. When crafting the "Jolly" kilim, we work with wools that we spin by hand in Bobowa, including a natural mélange using fibers from black sheep.
Danuta Paprowicz-Michno was born in 1926, after the war, in Krakow, she studied textile making at the Academy of Fine Arts, under the tutelage of Professor Stefan Gałkowski. Right after her studies, Wanda Teklakowska hired her to work at the Institute of Industrial Design. She designed many famous pieces such as “Kangury” “Łaźnie” and “Balony”. She was involved in predicting fashion fabric trends. She designed kilims for Cepelia (Central Folk Art and Crafts Union) but also large-format tapestries. She was repeatedly awarded for her work, which today belongs to the canon of Polish post-war design.
